Carter Carnegie, former senior vice president of sales for Breeders’ Cup Ltd., has been retained by Trakus’ business development team to help expand the company’s footprint in Europe and the rest of the world. Trakus is a technology company that uses a proprietary wireless communications system to instantly track the position and speed of each horse during a race.

"I plan to use the skills I honed at the Breeders’ Cup and the enthusiasm I have for this transformational technology to help racing fans worldwide follow and enjoy our beautiful sport more easily, while I continue to determine what my next full-time opportunity will be," said Carnegie, who is assuming a part-time role.

During his 10 years at Breeders’ Cup, Carnegie is credited with bringing in new marketing partners and sponsorship revenue, and promoting the event to an international audience. He previously worked for Host Communications, a leading sports marketing agencies, and is a University of Virginia graduate. He was born and raised in France.

"I am familiar with the Trakus technology, having used it at the Breeders’ Cup the past two years," Carnegie said. "One of the things I enjoy about the product is the modernization as to how fans can consume the game, without challenging the traditional aspects that are so appreciated."

Said Trakus’ chairman and Breeders’ Cup board member Barry Weisbord: "Carter spent the last 10 years successfully engaging with the worldwide racing community. At Trakus, we feel very fortunate to be able to add him to our team during his transitional period. It’s a rare opportunity to engage someone of his experience and stature, with his unique skillset."

Trakus is currently in use at seven tracks in North America, with five more set to come online in 2012 and 2013; and three racecourses internationally.
