Odds-on choice Roxy Gap, patiently ridden by Patrick Husbands, was a commanding winner of the $179,029 Hendrie Stakes (Can-II) at Woodbine May 19. (VIDEO)

Eugene Melnyk's Ontario homebred daughter of Indian CharlieHarts Gap, by Saint Ballado, chased the pacesetters into the stretch and came away with a 2 1/2-length victory, her second graded win in a row at Woodbine this spring. She covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.46 over the Polytrack.

Dr. Diamonds Prize broke on top, but an anxious Sweet Cassiopeia rushed to the lead and made the quarter in :23.05 and a half in :46.06 as Roxy Gap stalked from third position after breaking from the rail.

Husbands angled Roxy Gap to the outside into the turn, took dead aim at the leader from the top of the stretch. She was ridden out by Husbands to an easy win. Dr. Diamonds Prize got up for second with Justin Stein aboard, 3 1/4 lengths in front of Sweet Cassiopeia and James McAleney.

Husbands, who steered Roxy Gap to victory last time out from post 10 in the Whimsical (Can-III) April 22, was impressed with how the 4-year-old bay filly handled the inside post in the Hendrie.

"She was relaxed," smiled Husbands. "Last time, when I was on the outside she was aggressive. This time, on the inside, she was the boss today."

Trainer Mark Casse believes Roxy Gap could develop into as nice a horse as 2007 Horse of the Year Sealy Hill.

"Both her and Sealy Hill were average looking two-year-olds and as they got older, they got better," said Casse. "I can see this filly getting better. She'll turf too. Her turf performances are good."

She returned $3.70, $2.20 and $2.10, combining with Dr. Diamonds Prize ($3.80, $2.90) for a $14 exacta. Sweet Cassiopeia ($3.90) rounded out a $2 trifecta worth $48.70.

Kitty in a Tizzy, Dance to the Moon, and Atlantic Hurricane were scratched, reducing the field to six. Dancing Raven finished fourth, followed by Rashnaa and Anne's Beauty.

Roxy Gap collected $117,396 for her sixth lifetime win in 10 starts, extending her earnings to $592,769.
