Monsun, a four-time leading sire in his native Germany, came through with his 100th and 101st stakes winners May 6.

Novellist, a 3-year-old colt, won the Fruhjahrs-Preis des Bankhauses Metzler – Stadtrat Albert von Metzler-Rennen (Ger-III) to remain unbeaten. That day in England, Kailani, a 3-year-old filly, also remained undefeated when winning the Tweenhills Pretty Polly Stakes.

A three-time German group I winner, Monsun (Konigsstuhl—Mosella, by Surumu) is best known in North America as the sire of champion Stacelita and Breeders’ Cup winner Shirocco. A champion and classic winner in her native France prior to her arrival in the United States in 2011, Stacelita won the Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) and the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (gr. IT), and ran third against males in the United Nations Stakes (gr. IT). She earned an Eclipse Award as best female grass runner.

Shirocco, a German-bred, won the 2005 John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) over a field that included English Channel  , Better Talk Now, and Shakespeare  . Shirocco was a champion in Germany and Italy and a group I winner in those two countries, and in England. His group I score in his native land came in the BMW 135 Deutsches Derby.

Monsun, who stands at Gestut Schlenderhan is represented by numerous other champions and/or group I winners including Manduro, Schiaparelli, Getaway, Gentlewave, Samum, Le Miracle, Salve Regina, Floriot, Anna Monda, and Arcadio.
