Black Caviar to Run in Sportingbet Sprint
Trainer Peter Moody announced that super mare Black Caviar will run in the Sportingbet Sprint (Aust-I) April 28 and then the Goodwood Handicap (Aust-I) May 12 at Australia's Morphettville track in Adelaide before heading to England for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot June 23.
In her most recent start, Black Caviar won the Coolmore Lightning Stakes (Aust-I). The daughter of Bel Esprit is undefeated in 19 career outings, 16 of which were group races, and nine of which were group I events. She has earned $5,265,473.
The upcoming plans were made after Black Caviar won a jump-out at Caulfield on the morning of April 17. She prevailed in the 800-meter test by eight lengths in :45.99. A jump-out is an unofficial gate workout with several other horses to simulate actual race conditions.
Black Caviar’s jockey Luke Nolen said Black Caviar will greatly benefit from the jump-out.
"She actually had a nice blow but she comes to hand quite quickly,” Nolen told Sky Sports Radio."Her aerobic capacity is quite solid and she only takes probably two really solid gallops to come to hand.
"She had one of them this morning and she’ll probably have her next one (April 24). She’ll need that gallop next week.”
Nolen told Sky Sports Radio the reason behind giving Black Caviar the two Australian runs before heading to Ascot is because Moody wants the mare "pretty close to the mark” prior to the Diamond Jubilee.
"Because it’s such a journey she won’t be doing much for the first two weeks she’s there,” he said. “She’ll only need probably the one searching gallop before contesting the Diamond Jubilee.”
