Somali Lemonade, winner of the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland last fall, and Dayatthespa, winner of the Herecomesthebride (gr. IIIT) last month at Gulfstream Park, headline a field of nine 3-year-old fillies entered for Keeneland's $100,000 Appalachian Stakes (gr. IIIT) April 19.

The Appalachian, at one mile on the turf, was won last year by Winter Memories. It will go as the eighth on a nine-race program with a 4:42 p.m. (EDT) post time.

Trained by Michael Matz, Somali Lemonade has not started since finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IIT) after a wide trip that began from post position 14. Alex Solis, who has ridden the Caroline Forgason’s Lemon Drop Kid   filly in all three of her starts, has the mount Thursday. Somali Lemonade, who captured the Jessamine by 1 3/4 lengths on a yielding turf last Oct. 13, will break from post 4.

Jerry Frankel, Ronald Frankel, Steve Laymon and Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Dayatthespa, who is trained by Chad Brown, finished ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf to close 2011. In addition to her victory in the Herecomesthebride, Dayatthespa also won the Sweetest Chant at Gulfstream Park in January. Dayatthespa, who worked a half-mile this morning in :47 on April 15, will break from the rail under Javier Castellano.

Somali Lemonade and Dayatthespa were each assigned top weight of 123 pounds, from three to five pounds more than their rivals.

Lemon Splendor makes her first start of the year for owners Susan and Jim Hill and trainer George Weaver. The New York-bred Lemon Drop Kid filly won the restricted Swirlaway Stakes on the Aqueduct inner dirt course Dec. 29. She broke her maiden on the turf at Aqueduct before that. Julien Leparoux rides from post 3.
