Keeneland Catalogues 4,115 for November Sale

Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale begins Monday, with 4,115 horses catalogued for the 11-day auction.

The total includes 2,094 broodmares or broodmare prospects, 1,887 weanlings, and 134 horses of other ages. Last year Keeneland catalogued 5,111 lots for the sale.

At the conclusion of Monday's opening session Keeneland will offer a season to the sire Storm Cat. Overbrook Farm donated the season to benefit the American Red Cross.

"We're seeing many positive signs, including strong interest among domestic and international buyers," said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales. "We're guardedly optimistic."

The dams of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Tiznow, Cee's Song, and Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Squirtle Squirt, Lost the Code, are among the broodmares catalogued.

Cee's Song is in foal to Cee's Tizzy, while Lost the Code is pregnant to Cat Thief. Weanlings from the first crops of Exploit, Forestry, and Stravinsky are likely to attract attention as well.

Three Breeders' Cup winners from last week, Unbridled Elaine, Squirtle Squirt, and Johannesburg, are graduates of the November sale. Last year Keeneland sold 3,267 lots for $302,049,800, second-highest in the history of the breeding stock sale. The average was $92,466.
