HRTV has reached an agreement with independent broadcaster KVMD of Los Angeles giving Southern California racing fans television access to the upcoming Santa Anita winter/spring race meeting.
The 75th anniversary of Santa Anita’s major meeting opens the day after Christmas, and will continue through April 22.
The arrangement with KVMD will ensure that all racing fans in the Los Angeles area have the ability to view HRTV's live programming, including racing action from Santa Anita, during a 2:30 to 5 p.m. Pacific time slot every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the meet. Bonus coverage will be provided of Santa Anita’s traditional opening Dec. 26.
Due to its limited access, HRTV has been working in response to pressure from the California Horse Racing Board to provide an over-the-air alternative of its broadcasts for patrons in Southern California. The network has only minimal cable access and is seen by most over satellite carrier DISH Network.
“HRTV is delighted to serve racing fans in Southern California with their 'hometown' races. We are confident viewers will also enjoy the other fine racing action from across the country that HRTV regularly covers, as well as the opinions and insight of our on-air racing experts,” said Scott Daruty, HRTV’s president.
The station provides complete coverage of the Santa Anita meet, featuring commentary and analysis as well as in-depth paddock coverage, post parades, interviews, and race replays.
George Haines, Santa Anita’s president noted, “This additional reach for Santa Anita’s finest races during the winter meet is an exciting initiative that serves our entire racing fan base throughout the area. We appreciate HRTV’s investment.”
KVMD is available over-the-air throughout the Los Angeles market on channel 31, and is also available on DirecTV, DISH Network and on all cable and telco systems in Los Angeles, Ventura, the Inland Empire, and Orange Country. Viewers should check the KVMD page at www.hrtv.com for local channel listings.
