George Strawbridge Jr., the internationally known breeder, owner, and former steeplechase rider, has been selected as the Thoroughbred Club of America’s Honor Guest for 2011.
Strawbridge will be honored by the TCA at its 80th testimonial dinner at Keeneland Oct. 31.
“Over a long career, Mr. Strawbridge has exemplified the best traditions of horsemanship and sportsmanship,” TCA president Julie Cauthen said Sept. 9. “His personal commitment to the sport of Thoroughbred racing extends beyond his own personal success to outspoken leadership on behalf of the game.”
Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable for many years has been identified in the top echelon of the American Steeplechase scene, and he has also raced many major stars on the flat, including Eclipse Award winners Forever Together and Informed Decision in the United States. Strawbridge has won three Breeders’ Cup events: the 1994 Turf with Tikkanen, the 2008 Filly & Mare Turf with Forever Together, and the 2009 Filly & Mare Sprint with Informed Decision.
