Three-time Kentucky Derby Presented By Yum! Brands (gr. I)-winning jockey Calvin Borel was taken off his mounts at Ellis Park Aug. 21 following his arrest and jailing on a charge of driving under the influence the night before in Evansville, Ind.

According to his agent, Jerry Hissam, Borel, 44, was jailed briefly and released on bond following his arrest at about 10 p.m. CDT. Hissam said Borel was pulled over by Indiana State Police as he was driving his vehicle into the parking lot of the hotel where he was staying. The stop was made off of U.S. 41 in Evansville, near Ellis Park.

According to Evansville television station WTVW, Borel was pulled over for making an unsafe lane change. Hissam said he was told that Borel "blew slightly over" the .08 minimum level for blood-alcohol content when tested by officers.

Borel is currently leading the jockey standings at the Henderson, Ky. racetrack. The Louisiana native won the Kentucky Derby three times in four years with Street Sense   (2007), Mine That Bird (2009), and Super Saver   (2010).

Nominated to the National Racing Hall of Fame for the first time this year, Borel has 4,893 lifetime wins and total purse earnings of nearly $116 million during a career that began in 1983.
