Cee's Song, dam of two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) winner and prominent Central Kentucky sire Tiznow  , died April 20 from the infirmities of old age. Cee’s Song, who was 25, had resided at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. Ashford is a division of Irish-based Coolmore Stud.

Bred in Kentucky by Cotswold Farms 1981, Cee’s Song (Seattle Song—Lonely Dancer, by Nice Dancer) raced for Cecilia Straub-Rubens, whose nickname was Cee and who bred and raced Tiznow. Campaigned by Straub-Rubens alone and in partnership, Cee’s Song captured one of 18 starts.

Tiznow, sired by Straub-Rubens’ stallion Cee's Tizzy, is the only horse to win two runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Racing for Straub-Rubens and Michael Cooper, Tiznow beat Giant's Causeway   by a neck in the 2000 running, with 6-5 favorite Fusaichi Pegasus   finishing sixth. (Giant’s Causeway and Fusaichi Pegasus later took up stallion duty at Ashford.) Unfortunately for Straub-Rubens, she died shortly after the Breeders’ Cup and missed seeing Tiznow honored as Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male.

Tiznow began his 4-year-old campaign for Straub-Rubens Revocable Trust and Cooper. In what was his last start Tiznow won the Classic for Cees Stable over European invader Sakhee. Tiznow was retired with earnings of $6,427,830 and later was voted champion older male.

Tiznow has developed into an outstanding stallion. He stands at Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., where he has sired 35 stakes winners, including Tizway  , winner of the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) May 30.

The mating of Cee’s Tizzy and Cee’s Song produced a total of nine foals, including stakes winners Budroyale, Tizbud  , and Tizdubai and stakes producers Tizso and Tizamazing. Budroyale was the most successful of the group. For owner Jeffrey Sengara, he won four California grade II stakes and ran second in the 1999 Classic. He earned $2,840,810. Tizdubai captured the 2003 Sorrento Stakes (gr. II), and Tizbud won that year’s California Cup Classic Handicap.

Cee’s Song was purchased carrying Tizamazing for $2.6 million at the 2001 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Consigned by Denali Stud, agent, Cee’s Song was bought by Gerry Dilger’s Dromoland Farm. Tizamazing was bred by Barnett Enterprises, a Coolmore client.

Cee’s Song produced four offspring after foaling Tizamazing. The group includes stakes-placed C’Mon Tiger, by Storm Cat, and his winning full sister You’re Beautiful, who was sold for $1.2 million in foal to Mr. Greeley at the 2008 Keeneland November sale to Denali Stud, agent.
