Grade I winner Square Eddie, who entered stud in 2010 and then was returned to training, is back at stud at Vessels Stallion Farm near Bonsall, Calif. Owner J. Paul Reddam has priced him at $5,000 live foal.

Square Eddie, who covered 34 mares at Vessels last breeding season, got off to a solid start at the track after being returned to trainer Doug O’Neill. He set a track record of 1:13.11 in a 6 1/2-furlong allowance race at Santa Anita Jan. 14. He finished unplaced in his other two starts, the Donn Handicap (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park in February and the Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes (gr. IT) at Santa Anita March 5.

Five-year-old Square Eddie earned $35,400 during his brief return, upping his career earnings to $854,766.

Square Eddie (Smart Strike  --Forty Gran, by El Gran Senor) was one of the leading 2-year-olds of 2008. He captured the Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity (gr. I) and ran second in two stakes, including the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I). He was graded stakes-placed twice at 3.
