The Race Track Chaplaincy of America announced Feb. 25 that its executive director, Dr. Enrique Torres, will resign his current position as of April 15 to pursue other opportunities in ministry.
“Dr. Torres has served the RTCA with dedication and passion since coming on board in 2000,” said Racing Hall of Fame jockey and RTCA spokesperson Pat Day in a release. “In the past 11 years under his direction, RTCA has more than doubled the number of chaplains and the racetracks they serve, including helping start chaplaincies on five continents.”
The RTCA executive committee has named Dr. Paul Ransdell, the current RTCA director of development, as the interim executive director. Ransdell has been with RTCA since August 2009, and had previously served as major gift officer at Kentucky Educational Television and vice president of Institutional Advancement at Thomas More College.
“I am honored to be asked to lead this wonderful ministry and continue the positive momentum we have been able to create since establishing our relationship with Georgetown College and moving the national office to Central Kentucky,” Ransdell said in a statement.
The RTCA will conduct the 2011 Chaplaincy School and Annual Meeting in Georgetown, Ky., April 5-11. After that time, the organization will conduct a search for a permanent executive director.
