The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. winter mixed sale kicked off Jan. 18 in Central Florida with big increases in its key business figures during its consignor preferred session. The number of horses sold and the gross revenue rose 22.8% and 55.5%, respectively, from the corresponding session a year ago. Meanwhile, the average price and median price grew 26.6% and 76.5%, respectively.

The no bid/buy-back rate decreased to 30.7% from 33.3% in 2010.

I’m Buyin’, a colt by 2010’s leading first-crop sire by progeny earnings, Congrats  , was the most expensive horse sold, commanding $100,000. F H M B purchased the dark bay or brown yearling from Andy Cant, agent.

Bred in Florida by Paul Rothfuss and Barbie Rothfuss, I’m Buyin’ is the second foal out of the winning Salt Lake mare Toasttofriendship. She is a half sister to Sweet Storm Creek (by Storm Creek), a four-time winner who finished second in a division of the 2002 Natalma Stakes (Can-IIIT).

The results for the session included a gross of $1,399,400 for the 113 horses that were sold. The average was $12,384 and the median was $9,000.

The auction will end with an open session Jan. 19. Selling will begin at 11 a.m. (EST).
