Keeneland has cataloged 4,695 lots for its November breeding stock sale. The number is only seven fewer than the total of 4,702 cataloged in 2009.

The auction is scheduled for Nov. 8-20 in Lexington.

“I thought we would have a little less, but the horses in training portion of the catalog has expanded a little bit and the number of mares is up,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “In general, it’s a typical November catalog and it reflects the normal course of business.”

In 2009, the number cataloged dropped 17.6% from 2008’s sale record total of 5,709.

Highlights of this year’s sale include the following:

• The dispersals of Robin Scully’s Clovelly Farm, the North American holdings of Goncalo Borges Torrealba’s TNT Stud, and the stable of Irving Cowan.

• A reduction of the Phipps Stable.

• The first broodmare offered at public auction in foal to 2009 Cartier Horse of the Year Sea the Stars. The mare, Exciting Times, who is the dam of grade I winner Gorella, is part of the dispersal of Breeding Capital, Lane’s End, agent.

• The sale of horses in training from such stables as WinStar, Gary and Mary West, Darley, and Shadwell during the Nov. 16 session.

Catalogs for the November Sale will be available on Keeneland’s website, www.keeneland.com, beginning Oct. 5. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of Oct. 18.

The 4,695 lots include 2,729 broodmares or broodmare prospects; 1,756 weanlings, 198 horses of racing age, and 11 stallions. One stallion share also is scheduled to be offered.

“Hopefully, the stability created during our September yearling sale will carry on and the November sale will be able to build on it,” Russell said.

Indy, Bernardini  , Candy Ride, Curlin  , Distorted Humor  , Dynaformer, Elusive Quality  , Empire Maker, Galileo, Giant's Causeway  , Henrythenavigator, Indian Charlie, Lemon Drop Kid  , Malibu Moon, Medaglia d'Oro  , More Than Ready  , Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Raven's Pass, Smart Strike  , Speightstown  , Street Cry, Tapit  , Tiznow  , and Unbridled's Song.
