Whitney Handicap (gr. I) winner Blame breezed a sharp five furlongs in 1:00 1/5 at Keeneland Sunday, Sept. 5 in preparation for the Oct. 2 Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I).
Trainer Al Stall said he got the son of Arch galloping out six furlongs in 1:13.
"He worked by himself, which made it even more impressive," Stall said. "Everything is on schedule for the Gold Cup. He had a good trip back here from Saratoga, and we trained him for five days before giving him his first work over the track.
"Ideally, I'd love to ship to Belmont on the Wednesday before the Gold Cup, but we don't know yet when the plane will be going there."
Blame's main competition could come from Rail Trip, who turned in a sharp six-furlong work in 1:11 1/5 at Saratoga Saturday, and Travers (gr. I) runner-up Fly Down, who was beaten a nose by Afleet Express in the Midsummer Derby. Afleet Express is another who could show up for the mile and a quarter race, but trainer Jimmy Jerkens has made no plans yet for the son of Afleet Alex .
