Remington Adds 2-year-old Race Series

The 2010 Remington Park Thoroughbred season begins Aug. 19 and continues through Dec. 11. The 26-race stakes has been set with more than $3 million in purse money and a new series of races for 2-year-olds.
 
The headline event on the Remington Park stakes schedule remains the Oklahoma Derby, held this season on the only Sunday afternoon of racing on the Thoroughbred calendar, Oct. 10. The $400,000 event an undercard including the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks, and the $150,000 Remington Green, the richest turf race of the season.
 
Remington Park has instituted a series of 2-year-old stakes races that will culminate with the richest event of the series. The $250,000 Springboard Mile Dec. 11, the final day of the season, has also received an increased purse, from $200,000 in 2009.
 
The 2-year-old series of stakes races begins with the new $50,000 Kip Deville Stakes Oct. 8. Named after the all-time leading Oklahoma-bred, the race is spaced a month away from the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes. The Clever Trevor, named after the first Oklahoma Derby winner at Remington Park, and former all-time leading accredited Oklahoma-bred, falls on Nov. 6 with a purse increase of $50,000 from the 2009 edition.
 
The Oklahoma Classics, for eligible and accredited Oklahoma-breds, contested since its inception in 1993 at Remington Park, expands the purses for its race series to more than $1 million for the first time. The $175,000 Oklahoma Classic leads the series of eight races, which includes the $145,000 Distaff, $130,000 Sprint, the $130,000 Filly & Mare Sprint, the $130,000 Turf, the $130,000 Filly & Mare Turf, the $90,000 Juvenile, and the $90,000 Lassie.
 
Overall, there are 26 stakes races set, 14 of them worth $100,000 or more. Accredited Oklahoma-bred runners will have plenty of options with 14 stakes races restricted for them.
 
The stakes schedule begins on the opening Saturday of the season, Aug. 21, with the $200,000 Remington Sprint Cup and the $150,000 Governor’s Cup.
 
The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season will be conducted on a Wednesday through Saturday night regular basis with the first race normally at 6:30 p.m.
