Sadler Seeking Fifth Los Angeles Handicap Win
(Edited Hollywood Park report)
Cost Of Freedom, a rapid winner in his first start of 2010 earlier in the month, will be trying to help trainer John Sadler make some history in the Los Angeles Handicap (gr. III) at Hollywood Park on June 5.
Sadler, who won in 2009 with Red Arrow, is looking for his fifth victory in the race. He is currently tied with Buster Millerick for the most Los Angeles wins.
Owned by Gary and Cecil Barber, Cost Of Freedom, a 7-year-old Cee's Tizzy gelding out of the Moscow Ballet mare, won by 4 ½ lengths in 1:08.36 at the Los Angeles Handicap distance on May 6.
It was the California-bred’s initial outing since he finished third, a head behind winner Dancing In Silks, in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint last Nov. 7 at Santa Anita. Claimed for $50,000 by the Barbers on July 28, 2008 at Del Mar, Cost Of Freedom has won seven of 14 in his career while earning $606,105. Tyler Baze will ride the 122 pound top weight.
Stoneside and M One Rifle, who chased Cost Of Freedom nearly four weeks ago, return in the Los Angeles. M One Rifle, who lost his best chance at the start in his 4-year-old debut when he hopped at the break, earned his biggest victory in the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) last Dec. 26 at Santa Anita. Trained by Bruce Headley, who owns the gelding in a partnership, M One Rifle, a 4-year-old son of One Man Army and the Bertrando mare Leanessa, has won four of nine and $386,372. David Flores will ride M One Rifle for the first time as regular jockey Mike Smith has the call on Drosselmeyer in the Belmont Stakes.
