Quiet Temper, owner Mark Stanley’s star 3-year-old filly, got up to win the March 26 Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) (VIDEO) by a half-length as the favorite over pacesetter Champage d’Oro.

Sent off at nearly 3-1, Quiet Temper took the lead in the final furlong over 12-1 Champagne d’Oro, who finished a neck in front of the deadheated duo of Seeking the Title and Sheer Beauty.

The race was the first for Quiet Temper since she was nipped at the wire by Jody Slew in the Feb. 20 Silverbulletday (gr. III) at the New Orleans track. Jody Slew failed to threaten in the Oaks and finished 7th in the field of 11.

Ailalea, the 3-1 morning line choice, went off the second choice at 4-1 and finished sixth.

The victory was the third in eight starts for Quiet Temper, who was ridden by Robby Albarado and is trained by Dale Romans. Quiet Temper, who ran second in her first three starts last year, broke her maiden in the Boyd Gaming’s Delta Princess Stakes Powered by Youbet.com Stakes (gr. III) at Delta Downs last December. All four of her starts this year have been at Fair Grounds.

Quiet Temper’s earnings of $180,000 in the $300,000 Fair Grounds Oaks moved her career earnings to $587,300.

Quiet Temper, bred in Kentucky by James Jones and sired by Quiet American, paid $7.80, 4.80, and $3.40  Champagne d’Oro paid $11.20 and $10.60, and Seeking the Title and Sheer Beauty paid $2.80 and $7.80, respectively.

After the first four, came Mambo Fever, Ailalea, Jody Slew, Camille’s Appeal, Shezacrazygirl, Visavis, and The Rumor’s True, who went off at 167-1.
