It took some help from the stewards, but Vahorimix remained unbeaten on paper in France this year with a win via the disqualification of Proudwings in Sunday's Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois (Fr-I) at Deauville. Proudwings completed the one-mile race -- run on the straight course -- in 1:38 4/5, a half-length ahead of Vahorimix. The German-bred was placed last for interference caused when bearing markedly to the left in the final furlong. Vahorimix was awarded the win and Banks Hill second, giving trainer Andre Fabre the top two finishers in the race.
It marks the second French group I win on the year for Vahorimix in which he finished second on the course. Previously, Vahorimix was awarded the win in the French Two Thousand Guineas (Fr-I) after winner Noverre was disqualified following a positive drug test.
Godolphin's Noverre came home fourth Sunday but was awarded third, Chichicastenango is credited with fourth in the nine-horse field. Olden Times, who finished third in the St. James's Palace Stakes, was scratched.
Jean Luc Lagardere's Vahorimix began his year with a win in the Prix Matchem prior to the French Two Thousand Guineas. He then traveled to England where he finished fourth – beaten by only three-quarters of a length – in the St. James's Palace Stakes (Eng-I). Sunday's win on the good to soft ground at the French course marks his fourth in seven career starts. The gray 3-year-old son of Linamix--Vadsa Honor, by Highest Honor, was bred in France by S.N.C. Lagardere Elevage.
