Modigliani to Castleton Lyons

Modigliani, sire of Italian champion Magritte, will relocate to Castleton Lyons near Lexington from Greentree Stud in Ireland for the 2010 breeding season. The Kentucky-bred son of Danzig will stand for $5,000.

“We believe that Modigliani has proven he has the potential to become another great sire by Danzig, one of the most important sons of the great Northern Dancer,” said Shane Ryan, president of Castleton Lyons.

Modigliani is out of the Hot Spark mare Hot Princess.

“Modigliani’s first crop included Magritte, a champion 2-year-old filly. We have confidence in his ability as a sire and have strongly supported Modigliani over the last couple of breeding seasons. Modigliani now has a wonderful opportunity in Kentucky to be bred to more quality mares from our well established Castleton Lyons broodmare band. This stallion has demonstrated from his small earlier books in Ireland that he is capable of siring speedy 2-year-olds which would clearly suit the American breeding and racing programs.”

Eleven-year-old Modigliani won the Desert King E.B.F. Tetrarch (Ire-III) and was group-placed in England. He won at Keeneland at 4.

Magritte, out of the Saratoga Six mare Star of Sligo, was champion 2-year-old filly in Italy in 2007 while winning three of four starts, including the Premio Primi Passi (Ity-III). She was second in the Prix Robert Papin (Fr-II)
