Edited Walmac Farm release
Grade I winner Boboman has been retired from racing and will enter stud in 2010 at Walmac Farm, the Kentucky farm announced Oct. 22.
By Kingmambo out of Slewvera, by Seattle Slew, Boboman was bred in Kentucky by Wertheimer & Frere. A winner at 2, he raced in the United States under Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella and won the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IT) in his stakes debut.
Boboman also ran third on the main track in the $1-million Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) won by Lava Man; third in the $500,000 Oaklawn Handicap (gr. II) behind champion Lawyer Ron; and third in the Bay Meadows Handicap on the grass.
Boboman retires to stud with four wins and five placings in 17 starts, and earnings of $444,363. He joins just three other grade or group I-winning sons of Kingmambo in Kentucky: Lemon Drop Kid , Henrythenavigator, and Student Council .
Said Walmac managing director John T.L. Jones III: “Kingmambo is one of the world’s truly elite sires, and Boboman is his only grade I winner retiring (to stud in) Kentucky for 2010. Boboman showed immense determination coming back time and again from injury. If he passes on half his determination and class, he will be quite a sire.”
Jones said Boboman has the same breeding cross at Lemon Drop Kid.
