This half-brother to Mine That Bird has been named Brother Bird.

Dogwood Stable, which paid $485,000 for Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird’s half-brother by Yonaguska at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale, has named the colt Brother Bird.

According to a Dogwood spokesperson, the colt, out of the Smart Strike mare Mining My Own, was purchased on a Monday and all shares were sold out by Friday.

Brother Bird has been sent to Saratoga, where he will be trained by Todd Pletcher, who called the colt “very self confident.”

Brother Bird had been purchased earlier in the year at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s March 2-year-old sale for $100,000 by Paul Saylor, who entered the colt in the Midlantic sale at Timonium following Mine That Bird’s Kentucky Derby victory.

Cot Campbell, president of Dogwood Stable, will be in New York next week to run Lime Rickey in the June 5 Hill Prince Stakes on the grass.
