Stormy West and American Border, who have seven consecutive wins between them, will do battle in a full field of fillies and mares in the $125,000 Endeavour Stakes (gr. IIIT) Feb. 14 on the Tampa Bay Downs turf course.

Twelve horses and a pair of also-eligibles were entered for the 1 1/16-mile Endeavour, which is the first of two graded stakes on the Festival Preview Day card at Tampa Bay. As race nine on the program, it immediately precedes the $225,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-olds.

Carrying top weight of 122 pounds will be Diane and Guy Snowden’s Stormy West, a winner of three consecutive stakes – all at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. The last of the three wins came by a length Jan. 24 in the Marie Krantz Memorial Handicap.

A 5-year-old daughter of Gone West—Storm Beauty, by Storm Cat, Stormy West is in the best form of her career for trainer Bill Mott. Overall, she has recorded a 7-5-1 record from 20 starts. Kent Desormeaux, who last guided the mare to a fifth-place finish in the Oct. 3 First Lady Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland, will be in the irons.

Mr. Amore Stable’s American Border has been on an even better roll than Stormy West, winning four in a row and five of her last six. The 5-year-old daughter of Boundary racked up her most recent victory Jan. 24 on the Tampa Bay turf in an 8 1/2-furlong allowance event. The other wins during the streak came in New Jersey, including the Violet Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Meadowlands two starts back – her graded-stakes debut.

Jason Servis trains American Border, who is 9-9-7 from 38 starts with earnings of more than $270,000. Daniel Centeno will ride.

Other horses to consider are Ginger Brew, who won four of seven starts last year, including the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, and Eddie Kenneally trainee Ballymore Lady, a winner of allowance contests at Keeneland and Tampa Bay.
