Golden Yank, fresh off an impressive win in the $350,000 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park, heads the field in the $150,000 Zia Park Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles Dec. 6 at Zia Park in New Mexico.
First post time for the 11-race card is 12:15 p.m. MST. The Dec. 6 program kicks off the final racing week for 2008 at Zia Park.
Golden Yank, a son of Yankee Gentleman trained by Gary Thomas, won the Oklahoma Derby by two lengths. Earlier this year, he finished second in the grade II Jefferson Cup on the turf at Churchill Downs.
Kentucky-bred Golden Yank, bred and owned by the Millard R. Seldin Revocable Trust, has earned nearly $600,000. He has started 12 times with four wins, two seconds, and two thirds. Jamie Theriot rides Golden Yank, who drew post position seven in a nine-horse field.
Red Sky Dubai will make his first start around two turns for trainer Molly Pearson. The colt was third in the Luke Kruytbosch Handicap and the Caballos Del Sol Handicap, two six-furlong stakes at Turf Paradise in Arizona. Miguel Hernandez has the call about Red Sky Dubai from post two.
Numismatist finished a close second in the Prelude Stakes and then competed in the grade II Super Derby at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs. The Donnie Von Hemel-trained colt has finished on the board in eight of 12 starts with a pair of wins. Glen Murphy has the call from post five.
The Dec. 7 program at Zia Park features the $200,000 Zia Park Distance Championship, the $175,000 Zia Park Quarter Horse Championship, and the $120,000 New Mexico Eddy County Stakes.
