A daughter of Red Bulletbrought the top price of $30,000 during the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga open yearling sale Aug. 12 in New York. Carl Lizza’s Flying Zee Stable purchased the bay filly from Southern Style Sales, agent for Pegasus Farms.

The yearling is the second foal produced from the 6-year-old Polish Numbers mare Overdue Number, who failed to win her only race but is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Ghostly Numbers. An earner of $280,740, Ghostly Numbers captured the 2002 William Livingston Stakes at the Meadowlands and the 2002 and 2003 editions of the Mister Diz Stakes at Laurel.

Flying Zee also bought the Saratoga auction's second-highest-priced horse, spending $22,000 for a Strategic Mission -- Lillyatthehelm colt. The yearling was consigned by Southern Style as agent for Pegasus.

According to Fasig-Tipton, 30 yearlings were sold, generating a gross of $244,700. Their average price was $8,157, and their median price was $5,300. Compared to a year ago, the number sold plummeted 58.9% from 73 while the gross dropped 53.3% from $523,600. However, the average rose 13.7% from $7,173, and the median increased 17.8% from $4,500.

The buy-back rate advanced from 42.5% in 2007 to 50.0% this year.
