Big Brown had his final tune-up Aug. 1 for the $1-million Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I), breezing three furlongs in :38 3/5 on the Aqueduct turf course.

“He went really well,” IEAH Stables co-president Iavarone said. “The dogs were way out off the rail, and it was just what we wanted; no gallop-out. It was just a lung opener. Rick decided to work on the turf just to protect his feet. God forbid if anything went wrong, like if he stepped on a rock or something like that. Rick said he had a nightmare with Rising Moon, and he didn’t want to have anything like that happen again.”

Big Brown is expected to van down to Monmouth early on the morning of Aug. 2 and will school in the paddock between two of the early races. The Haskell is scheduled for Aug. 3.

This work followed two sharp drills, in which the son of Boundary went five furlongs in :59 1/5 and then six furlongs in 1:10 4/5.

Big Brown will break from post 4 in the seven-horse field.
