Matt Hook has joined Pinnacle Race Course as track announcer, with additional roles as assistant racing secretary and track handicapper.  The announcement was made July 16 by Pinnacle Race Course general manager Allan Plever.

Hook most recently was track announcer at Thistledown in Ohio. Prior to that, he was the announcer at Great Lakes Downs in Muskegon, Mich., where he worked with both Pinnacle founder Jerry Campbell and Plever. He also was the former announcer at Fonner Park in Nebraska.

Hook started his career at Canterbury Park in Minnesota, where he was a television analyst and was named handicapper of the year in 1997.

“Matt Hook brings a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm to his race calling,” Plever said. “He was one of the best track announcers when he was at Great Lakes Downs, and he’s even better today. Michigan race fans will be happy to hear his voice, and we are happy to bring him back.”

"Joining Pinnacle Race Course is an exciting opportunity to be involved with world-class racing operators in a first-class facility,” Hook said. “I’ve had the pleasure of working previously with both Jerry Campbell and Allan Plever when I was at Great Lakes Downs, and it was a fantastic experience. I’m excited to join the team, and I’m pleased to share my enthusiasm with the thousands of great Michigan Thoroughbred fans I have encountered over the years.”

Hook will begin his race-calling duties July 18, opening day of racing at Pinnacle.
