Jockey Ramon Dominguez set a single-season record for wins on Aqueduct’s inner track when he rode Winning Move Stable’s Oedipus O’Neal to victory for trainer Gary Contessa in the fourth race on Aqueduct’s March 15 card.
The win was number 106 for 31-year-old Dominguez, who broke the record of 105 set by jockey Eibar Coa in the winter of 2005-2006. Dominguez also led the standings at Aqueduct with 82 wins, 36 more than closest competitor Rajiv Maragh, going into the March 15 card.
“It’s been great,” Dominguez said. “You can’t take anything for granted. Coming into the meet, I thought I would have a good meet and I thought I had the pieces to be leading rider. At the same time, that doesn’t have to happen. To start the season, breaking a record wasn’t even on my mind. I’m happy to win for Gary (Contessa) and Winning Move Stable. They give me a lot of my business. But I have to thank all of the horsemen and my agent, Steve Rushing.”
