Tranquility Lake, never worse than second in seven tries over the Hollywood Park turf, heads a classy field of seven distaffers in Saturday's $250,000 Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. I) at nine furlongs. Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Marty Wygod, the Rahy mare captured the 1999 running of the Gamely by better than five lengths. Off since a good second to Tout Charmant in last November's Matriarch (gr. I), Tranquility Lake came back in style with a facile victory a month ago in the Grade III Wilshire Handicap. Regular partner Eddie Delahoussaye rides for trainer Julio Canani. Tranquility Lake, the highweight at 124 pounds, briefly grabbed the lead in last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf contest at Churchill Downs before fading to eighth. She also owns a Grade I score for last year's Yellow Ribbon crosstown at Santa Anita.

Comebacker Happyanunoit is the leading earner in the Gamely field, having scored better than $1.4 million for owner John Amerman. Her last trip to post was November's Matriarch, where she finished just behind Tranquility Lake in third. She has hit the board in five of six starts on the Hollywood green, and owns scores in last year's Beverly Hills H. and the 1999 Matriarch, both Grade I's. Happyanunoit is conditioned by Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel, who also sends out the Juddmonte Farms homebred High Walden.

Michael Tabor's Kalypso Katie, bred in Ireland, made her initial stateside outing a winning win with an allowance score over the course and at the distance earlier this month. The Fairy King filly, conditioned by Neil Drysdale, is a graded stakes winner in Great Britain. She defeated Eurolink Raindance, her country mate, in that allowance, and faces her again today. Eurolink Raindance is winless in four American starts fort trainer Ben Cecil. She won a 2-year-old stakes across the pond.

Trifecta players should note that Beautiful Noise has hit the board in her last 13 starts, including six straight graded stakes. The Sunny's Halo mare hails from the Hall of Fame barn of Ron McAnally, who teams with regular rider Chris McCarron for the Gamely. Also in with a shot is Rare Charmer, who comes off a strong win in the Frans Valentine last month for conditioner Craig Dollase. The daughter of Slewpy has never finished off the board in four tries around this layout.

The field, in post position order with riders and weights: High Walden (Alex Solis, 116), Happyanunoit (Brice Blanc, 121), Beautiful Noise (McCarron, 116), Eurolink Raindance (Tyler Baze, 111), Kalypso Katie (Gary Stevens, 118), Tranquility Lake (Eddie Delahoussaye, 124), Rare Charmer (Laffit Pincay, 117).
