Turf Paradise reported increases in total handle and total on-track handle for its 165-day live meet that ended May 22.

The total all-sources handle rose 9% to an estimated $334,179,000, up from last year's total handle of $306,134,240, according to general manager Randy Fozzard. The average daily handle was up 4.5% to $2,025,327 compared with the 1999-00 meet that offered 158 days of live racing and averaged $1,937,558.
On-track handle reportedly rose 20% to $51,950,00, but the figure includes wagers by Turf Paradise patrons on imported simulcast races. The handle for Turf Paradise patrons betting on the live races was not available.

Average daily attendance fell 2% to 2,173 compared with the 2,223 during the 1990-00 meet.

Other highlights of the meet included a 13% increase in the average daily purse to $81,197. Chance Rollins took the meet's riding title with 191 wins and Jeff Mullins captured the leading trainer title with 77 winners.
