Moving into the final catalog book, the focus is now on bargains rather than stars, and because the TrueNicks rating compares like with like, it’s able to highlight less expensively bred horses which are the product of a promising cross.

The first example is hip 2005 by Kissin Kris, sire of such smart performers as Canadian champion Kiss a Native and graded winners Cellars Shiraz, Hasty Kris, Delightful Kiss, and Smoocher. Bred on a version of the very productive Roberto/In Reality cross, this one is out of a Known Fact mare, as are grade I winner Overarching (by Arch, a son of Kissin Kris’s sire, Kris S.) and graded winner Kumari Continent (by Kris S. himself).

Pollard's Vision topped the TrueNicks ratings for short yearlings earlier in the week, with one out of a mare by a son of Meadowlake. Now he’s back in the frame with hip 1975, who is out of Tacit Bid, a Meadowlake half-sister to graded winner and stakes producer Approved to Fly. This is the Carson City/Meadowlake cross that produced stakes winners Little Miss Zip and Tishmeister (both by City Zip).

Next in a three-way tie come three Buddha yearlings, all out of Northern Dancer-line mares. Hip 2017 is out of the Deputy Minister mare Zelmira, from the Courtly Dee family of Althea, Twining (a close relative to this filly’s granddam), Balletto (UAE), Aldiza, and Arch to name but a few. Hip 2084 is a Buddha filly who is the first foal of the well-bred Diameter, a daughter of Boundary and grade I winner Nine Keys. This filly is out of a mare by a son of Danzig, and a look at the TrueNicks page shows us that Buddha has already sired stakes winner Glorification out of a mare by a son of Danzig. Also out of a mare by a son of Danzig is the Buddha – Lethal Lover filly, hip 2152. The dam, by Honor Grades, is a five-time winner out of stakes winner Fantasy Lover.

We can also note that the Top 10 short yearlings also feature three by a very solid racehorse sire, Devil His Due.

The TrueNicks program is very quick to spot a developing cross, and Saturday’s carried foals are headed by one that fits this description. Hip 2104 is the Maria's Mon mare Foolish Monarch, whose dam is a half sister to the wonderful filly Goodbye Halo. She is in foal to Storm Cat’s grandson Wiseman's Ferry  , and 2007 saw two juvenile stakes winners by sons of Storm Cat out of Maria’s Mon mares, something significant for a broodmare sire who is only just starting to have runners in that role.

Hip 2076 is the Halo mare, Crystal Halo, a winner of nearly $130,000, and herself a daughter of stakes winner Crystany. She is in foal to Cape Canaveral, a fact worth noting since Cape Canaveral has sired grade II winner Magnolia Jackson out of a mare by a son of Halo, and stakes winner Roving Angel out of a Halo mare.

Hip 2136 – a daughter of the Forty Niner horse Roar, in foal to Zavata (by Phone Trick) - is propelled into third by stakes winners Joke and Tight Spin, both products of a Phone Trick/Forty Niner cross.
