Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs Farm, North America’s leading breeder by earnings for the fifth consecutive year, will offer a large consignment of in-foal mares at both Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton mixed sales this fall.

Fasig-Tipton Kentucky will host the 11th annual Adena Springs Broodmare Sale Nov. 8. More than 100 mares carrying their first foals will be offered.

Another 200 mares will be offered at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 5-17. These include 5-year-old Spun Sugar (by Awesome Again  ), a dual grade I winner carrying her first foal by A.P. Indy, and Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT)  and John Mabee Handicap (gr. IT) winner Amorama (by Sri Pekan), carrying her first foal by Horse of the Year Ghostzapper. Awesome Again and Ghostzapper stand at Adena Springs Kentucky near Paris, Ky.

Of the decision to sell Spun Sugar, winner of the 2006 Apple Blossom and Go For Wand handicaps (both grade I), Jack Brothers, director of breeder operations, said: "Naturally, she is a marquee mare. But as a whole, the bulk of mares we have consigned are very nice, and they are in foal to very fashionable stallions."

The Adena mares will be spread throughout the Keeneland catalog and will not be offered in bulk. Hidden Brook Farm will act as agent for Adena Springs at the Keeneland sale.

"The number of mares we are selling at Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland is less than half the total number of mares we own," Brothers said. "We will continue to have a substantially large broodmare band. The way Frank operates, with his support of the stallions, we will begin to replenish and continue to buy mares to breed to the stallions and sell them in foal the first time."

Brothers said Adena Springs could also be an active buyer during the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale, as well as at Keeneland November.
