Keeneland has cataloged 226 horses for its April sale of 2-year-olds in training. This year's edition, scheduled for April 17 at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) in Lexington, will be the first juvenile auction in North America to use a Polytrack surface for its under tack shows.
The catalog can be viewed online at www.keeneland.com. Printed catalogs will be mailed March 5.
“This catalog has strong domestic and international appeal, and it has been well supported by our consignors,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales.
Prospective buyers will have several opportunities to see the April sale two-year-olds. Keeneland’s sale preview, a 90-minute program featuring many of the sale’s top prospects, will air the week of March 26 on TVG and HRTV. Under tack shows are scheduled for April 9 and April 16, beginning each day at 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
“Given the growing prevalence of synthetic surfaces, especially among tracks on such major racing circuits as Kentucky, California and Illinois, it’s important that buyers have a chance to see horses perform on Polytrack,” Russell said. “Polytrack is proving to be a very good training surface. Both Barbaro and Lemons Forever trained over Polytrack just prior to their wins in last year’s Kentucky Derby (Presented by Yum! Brands, gr. I) and Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), as did four of last fall’s Breeders’ Cup winners – Street Sense, Round Pond, Dreaming of Anna, and Thor’s Echo.”
Ninety-four different stallions are represented by April sale juveniles in 2007, including Awesome Again , Danzig, Distorted Humor , El Prado, Elusive Quality , Forestry, Giant’s Causeway, Gone West, Johannesburg, Kingmambo, Point Given , Pulpit, Street Cry, and Unbridled's Song.
Freshman sires with two-year-olds cataloged include Aldebaran, Empire Maker, Harlan’s Holiday, Hold That Tiger, Mineshaft , and Vindication.
