(Edited press release)
Robert Butcher, director of pari-mutuels at Keeneland, returned to the University of Arizona Feb. 9 to serve as a guest lecturer in the Race Track Industry Program. Butcher, an alumnus of the Race Track Industry Program, completed his studies in 1999.
Butcher said that Keeneland lists customer service as the top priority in its union contracts. Superior service helps Keeneland maintain its customer base.
In order to provide exceptional customer service, employees must be willing to provide their best effort, Butcher added. Having a positive relationship with employees will lead to excellent service.
“If you show interest in your employees, they’ll work hard for you,” he explained.
Butcher had previously worked in mutuels at Freehold Raceway, Calder Race Course, and Gulfstream Park before coming to Keeneland.
The University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program offers both a bachelors and masters degree program with an emphasis on the pari-mutuel racing industry and hosts the annual Symposium on Racing and Gaming held every December in Tucson, Ariz.
