Finalists for Horse of the Year are multiple grade I winners Brother Derek, Lava Man, and Thor’s Echo. ESPN horseracing analyst Chris Lincoln will return as master of ceremonies.

3-year-old male: Brother Derek, bred by Mary Caldwell, owned by Cecil Peacock, and trained by Dan Hendricks.
3-year-old female: Bai and Bai, bred by Mares’ Nest, owned by George Vinson and Harry Wilson, and trained by William Delia.
Older male and turf horse: Lava Man, bred by Kim and Eve Kuhlmann and Lonnie Arterburn, owned by STD Racing Stable or Wood, and trained by Doug O’Neill.

Also at the banquet, the late breeder John Mabee and his wife Betty, their gelding Best Pal, the late breeder and legislator Ken Maddy, and Free House will be inducted into the California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Hall of Fame.
