Edited OBSC release

Tadwiga, a 12-year-old mare by Fairy King in foal to Consolidator, was purchased by Eugenio Colombo, agent, for $170,000 to top the first Consignor Preferred session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2007 Winter Mixed Sale Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), the bay mare is out of Euromill, by Shirley Heights, a full sister to graded stakes winner Bartok. She is the dam of graded stakes winner Rock Lobster.

The session was the first under the new format where the upset price was $10,000, with 114 of the 189 horses through the ring not selling, for an RNA rate of 60.3%. The RNA rate for the comparable session one year ago was 31.9%.

For the session, 75 horses brought a total of $2,542,500, compared with 175 horses grossing $3,441,900 at last year’s opening session. The average price of $33,900 represented a 72.4% gain over the $19,668 last year, while the median price was $21,000, up 100% from the $10,000 session median in 2006.

Colombo went to $160,000  to acquire Diavla, a 6-year-old mare by Bahri in foal to Songandaprayer  . Consigned by Summerfield, the dark bay or brown mare is out of Change My Heart, by El Gran Senor, a half sister to stakes winner Dynatrol.

Summerfield also consigned Wonder Legend, a 3-year-old daughter of Touch Gold  in foal to Roman Ruler, and sold to Richard Spoor, Harlingen Stables, for $120,000. The bay mare is out of Take Heart, by Secretariat, and is a half sister to grade I stakes winner Spinning Round, dam of millionaire Dream Supreme.

The session’s highest priced yearling was a colt by Songandaprayer  consigned by Janie Roper, agent, and sold to L. P. Thibadeaux, agent for Becky Winemiller, for $120,000. The bay colt is out of Banker’s Bet, by Majestic Light, and is a half-brother to stakes winners Personal Bankers and Third Day.

The Winter Mixed Sale continues Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with the second Consignor Preferred Session.
