Edited press release
The Breeders' Cup simulcast helped trigger a record day for New Jersey Account Wagering and increased wagering at both Meadowlands and Monmouth Park.
The account wagering service set a one-day record of $724,766, up $194,000, or 55%, from last year. Meanwhile, Meadowlands' day/night handle on-site handle of nearly $4.7 million was up $310,000 (6.6%), and Monmouth experienced a $245,000 increase (17%) versus Breeders' Cup day/night handle last year.
(Meadowlands was open for live racing, and Monmouth only for simulcasts.)
The $3.8 million wagered on the eight Breeders' Cup stakes by Meadowlands, Monmouth, and account wagering patrons was up by more than $300,000 when compared with 2005. Meadowlands' daytime attendance of 7,656 was the highest for a Breeders' Cup Day since 2002 and the total day/night attendance of 11,840 was up 4% from 2005.
Monmouth is scheduled to host next year's Breeders' Cup World Championships.
