Injury KO's Ommadon from Wood Memorial; Congaree Sharp in Work

Ommadon, winner of his only start this year, will not run in Saturday's $750,000 Wood Memorial after suffering a bruised foot last Monday. The son of Grindstone, winner of last fall's Nashua Stakes, will now be pointed for the $200,000 Federico Tesio Stakes on Apr. 21, which could be used as a prep for the Preakness Stakes.

"I thought we'd be all right," trainer Tom Walsh said, "but we just missed too much time with him. So, we'll try the Tesio, and if it looks like we can make it we'll probably work him three-quarters next Monday."

In other Wood Memorial news, Congaree, brilliant winner of his last two races, worked a sharp 6 furlongs in 1:11 2/5 at Santa Anita Monday. The son of Arazi is scheduled to arrive in New York tomorrow afternoon. He went in fractions of :25 2/5, :48, and 1:00 before flying home his final eighth in :11 2/5. He came home the last quarter in a sizzling :23 2/5.

"He's a pretty handy horse, and you can put him wherever you want to," Baffert said. "He's only had a few races, but he's shown brilliance in those races. He's a big horse, and he has a pretty good head on his shoulders for a horse who hasn't raced all that much."

The Wood will be headed by Monarchos, who breezed 5 furlongs in 1:00 1/5 at Churchill Downs on Sunday. Other probable starters are Gotham winner Richly Blended, It's So Simple, and Voodoo. Several others are expected to join the field.
