A filly from the second crop of Sky Mesa
led the way Tuesday during the second session of the Ocala Breeders Sales Co. fall mixed auction in Central Florida. Living Large Stable purchased the chestnut weanling for $167,000 from Beth Bayer, agent. Stacy Leppala and Aron Yagoda bred the filly in Kentucky.
Produced from the 10-year-old unraced Meadowlake
mare Sugar Run, the filly is a half-sister to winner Sugar Pine (by Mud Route), who finished second in the 2004 Fantasy Stakes at Hastings Racecourse in Canada. Sugar Run is a full sister to added-money winner Amalake and a half-sister to winner Amavalidhope, the dam of 2002 Miss Preakness Stakes (gr. III) winner Vesta.
Tuesday's session was the second of three consignor-preferred days, which will be followed by open sessions on Thursday and Friday. During selling Tuesday, the 201 horses sold grossed $4,403,400. Their average price was $21,907. All those numbers were head of last year's comparable session, when 186 horses grossed $4,040,000 and averaged $21,720.
