Adieu Pointed For La Troienne
Trainer Todd Pletcher said Adieu is out of consideration for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) May 5 at Churchill Downs and will instead point toward the La Troienne Stakes (gr. III) on the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) undercard the following day.Pletcher said the daughter of El Corredor was "one work away" from being ready for the April 12 Stonerside Beaumont Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland. In that seven-furlong 184 feet race he will saddle stakes-placed India and the lightly raced Yachats. "I felt like she needed one more work," Pletcher said of Adieu Tuesday afternoon. "Unfortunately, she just came up a little bit short in works and she will not make the Oaks." Adieu closed at 20-1 in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager betting. Adieu, owned by Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, breezed five furlongs in 1:02.60 at Churchill Downs April 8. The same ownership group also campaigns Wild Fit, who was pulled from Oaks consideration by trainer Patrick Biancone after developing a lung infection. The Pletcher stable will not be left out of the Oaks starting gate. The trainer said Wait a While came out of her second-place finish in the April 8 Ashland Stakes (gr. I) in good order and is now pointed toward the 1 1/8-mile Oaks.
