Tiznow, a full brother to Budroyale, followed up his May maiden win by upsetting the field in the $134,250 Affirmed Handicap at Hollywood Park Saturday. Tiznow stopped the timer in 1:42.35 after a 1 1/16 mile ground-saving trip under Victor Espinoza. Sent off at nearly 11-1, Tiznow returned $23.60, $5.80, and $3.20. The winning $1exacta paid $31.20.

"I've watched his brother race for a long time, and this horse ran just like his brother today," said Espinoza. "He was very tough, and he dug back in against (Dixie Union)."

Millencolin, Hemmingsway, and favored Dixie Union--the latter three-wide--raced for the early lead and dueled through the backstretch. Tiznow moved into contention along the rail as they approached the turn, with Hemmingsway dropping back. Tiznow, Millencolin, and Dixie Union were three across the track around the second turn, with Tiznow saving ground, and Dixie Union widest of all. In the stretch, Dixie Union led briefly at the 1/8-pole but was overtaken by the winner in deep stretch.

"I had a very good trip," said Espinoza. "I knew there was a lot of speed in the race, so I sat behind the speed because my only chance was to just wait and make one run. He responded very well."

Tiznow, racing under 13 less pounds than the favorite, won by a neck over Dixie Union. Millencolin finished two lengths farther back in third, followed by Grey Memo, Performing Magic, and Hemmingsway.

Tiznow (Cee's Tizzy--Cee's Song, by Seattle Song) won for the first time in his third race, a decisive 8 1/2-length win on May 31. He is owned by Michael Cooper and Cecilia Straub-Rubens and was bred in California by the latter. The Jay Robbins trainee earned $80,550 for the win. Tiznow will be pointed to a start in the $500,000 Swaps Stakes (gr. I) on July 23. (Chart, Equibase)
