Progeny of Capote, Is It True, Silver Charm Shine in OBS Under Tack Show

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. conducted the second and final under tack show Sunday for its February select sale of 2-year-olds in training in weather conditions that were "ideal," according to the auction firm's director of sales and general manager. Tom Ventura.

It was cool and sunny, following a wet Saturday in South Florida, and the Calder Race Course surface was fast. The progeny of Capote, Is It True, and Silver Charm stood out.

"The track was in excellent condition," Ventura said. "They (Calder's staff) anticipated the rain, and they were able to take care of the track right after training hours yesterday."

A Capote colt was the quickest at an eighth of a mile, covering the distance in :10 1/5 and improving on his :10 3/5 effort in the first under tack show Jan. 30. Blazing Meadows Farm is the consignor of the colt, which is out of the 10-year-old stakes-winning Time for a Change mare Jive Talker. Other family members include grade II winner Thirty Eight Go Go and grade III winner Notches Trace. Timothy Hamm, as agent, purchased the dark bay or brown juvenile for $45,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling auction.

Colts by Is It True and Silver Charm tied at :21 1/5 for the fastest quarter-mile work.

The Is It True colt is out of the 6-year-old unraced Fortunate Prospect mare Fortunate Chick, who is a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) winner Thirty Slews. JNR Bloodstock purchased the chestnut 2-year-old for $55,000 last year at the Keeneland September yearling auction. Ricky Leppala, agent, is his consignor at the OBS Calder sale.

The Silver Charm colt is the first foal out of the 6-year-old unraced A.P. Jet mare Ziggaraut, who is from the family of grade III winner Burst of Colors and her grade II-winning daughter Fappaburst. Paul Sharp, the dark bay or brown 2-year-old's consignor, bought him for $50,000 at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale in August in Saratoga Springs.

The Is It True colt worked an eighth of a mile in :10 2/5 during the first under tack show while the Silver Charm colt covered a quarter mile in :22.

The OBS Calder auction is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at noon (EST).
