Guidry Off Mounts Following Spill at Churchill

By Claire Novak
Jockey Mark Guidry took off his mounts on Saturday following a spill in Friday's 10th race at Churchill Downs.

Guidry was thrown when his mount, Dale Romans-trainee Irish Majesty, apparently spooked at a shadow on the track and hurdled the inner rail near the finish line. Guidry was able to slide off his mount before the collision and was avoided by the remnant of the 12-horse field.

"He just felt a little stiff and sore this morning," said the jockey's agent, Fred Aime. "He didn't want to aggravate anything and decided to play it safe. We'll see how he feels, but he'll probably be back tomorrow."

Irish Majesty was making a move in mid-pack along the inside and may have been confused by the late afternoon shadows. The 6-5 favorite in a field of 12 maidens, Irish Majesty escaped serious injury, according to owner Ken Ramsey, who added that the colt would get a thorough examination.
