Flying Glitter received the early call from the gate and Albarado settled her slightly off the rail early while being stalked by Pussycat Doll and Miss Matched. Racing to the half-mile marker, jockey Shaun Bridgmohan began to inch up the rail with Miss Matched, and the two fillies were on even terms by the three-quarter mile marker.
"We anticipated her busting out on the lead, and I was hoping she would relax for me. Coming out of the first turn, she was kind enough and, when Miss Matched ran up inside of her, she naturally picked it up from the backside home," said Albarado. "She prefers a horse inside of her, so it worked out perfect that one of the favorites ran up on the inside of me. It was to my benefit."
Miss Matched, trained by John Ward, continued to keep the pressure on the leader as the field hit the top of the stretch, where Bridgmohan angled her out and made yet another bid. Eyes On Eddy raced next to last in the short field, at times three and four wide, before launching her challenge in the stretch for Court. The Touch Gold bay gobbled up ground in the lane – surging past Miss Matched – but could not get to the winner. Favorite R Lady lacked a late response and finished fourth. Second choice Pussycat Doll and Rimroc Gold rounded out the field.
Trained by Ronny Werner for owners Richard and Nancy Kaster, Flying Glitter's victory was worth $243,060 and doubled her career earnings to $486,111. She has won half of her eight starts this season.
"I didn't really want her going that fast in the first quarter. I was a little concerned when she went in :23 and then :46 (:46.1), but she held it well," said Werner. "We figured we'd be on the front end, but we didn't want to go quite that fast. She got across this track pretty well and obviously finished up well."
The field of eight was shortened to six with the withdrawals of Overbrook Farm's Winning Season and the Margaret Grimm-trained No Affair.
