With the price of a gallon of gas at or near $3, Meadowlands will promote its Friday nights by giving away fuel via drawings throughout the evening.
Gas cards worth $500 each will be distributed through drawings each Friday night during the seven-week Thoroughbred meet that begins Sept. 30 at the New Jersey racetrack. Five winners will be selected each of the nights.
Meadowlands, which races 30 days through Nov. 12, will offer live racing Tuesday afternoons in October and Wednesday through Saturday nights for the entire meet. First post time is 1:10 p.m. Tuesdays and 7:30 p.m. the other days of the week.
Free admission will be offered opening night, Sept. 30. That program features the $250,000 Pegasus Stakes (gr. III).
On Oct. 7, night of the $500,000 Meadowlands Breeders' Cup (gr. II), the track will kick off a two-night fundraising project to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims through the NTRA Charities Racing to the Rescue Fund. Cash donations--or checks made out to NTRA Charities/ Racing to the Rescue--will be collected both nights. Meadowlands will contribute all admission fees and the track's commission on wagering for a race Oct. 8.
Meadowlands as usual will be open for the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships simulcast Oct. 29 from Belmont Park. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. for a full day and evening of simulcasts as well as live racing in the evening.
