Six to Try Grass in Garden City

A field relatively small in size but rich in international flavor will contest Saturday's $300,000 Garden City Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. IT) for 3 year old fillies at Belmont Park. The nine-furlong event on the inner turf course attracted six.

Irish bred Luas Line will be making her second trip to North America this year, having run in the American Oaks Invitational (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park, where she was fourth behind Cesario. Since then, she has run two winning races in her native Ireland, where she is a two-time stakes winner. Her $239,535 bankroll makes the daughter of Danehill the most accomplished earner in the race. She is conditioned by David Wachman.

Live Oak Plantation's My Typhoon, winner of the Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs in July, is but $2,000 short of Luas Line in lifetime earnings. The Bill Mott trainee narrowly missed taking the Lake Placid (gr. IIT) at Saratoga last month, missing by a head to Naissance Royale. My Typhoon is also a two-time stakes winner.

Christophe Clement sends out Insan Mala, another Irish bred, who comes in off a score in the Tenski Stakes at Saratoga. She could be improving and is a consistent sort, having placed in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs in May. Dynamite Lass comes in off an allowance victory at Saratoga. She has been second in three stakes runs this year, including the Herecomesthebride Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream. She is owned by Alfred Corrado and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

Asi Siempre was bred in Kentucky but has run exclusively in France, where she won the Prix Madame Jean Couturie and hit the board in two other stakes. Patrick Biancone saddles her for the first time. Rounding out the Garden City is Finlandia, who posted a second in the Yaddo Handicap at Saratoga last month. She took an allowance tilt at Belmont in July for Nyala Farm and trainer Thomas Bush.
