Two minor changes were recently approved to the guidelines for North American black type starting in 2006. The changes were recommended by the North American representatives of the International Cataloguing Standards Committee, and ratified by members of the Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers.
The changes were made because some stakes were run at Tampa Bay Downs carrying a purse of $35,000 for open company and $40,000 for Florida-bred entrants. The minimum purse value for North American black type race, which will remain in effect for 2006, is $40,000.
Under the new guidelines, races that contain preference clauses based on criteria other than the quality of the horse in the race shall be considered restricted races. Also, all entrants in a race must be eligible for the purse monies used to determine the minimum purse value for black type status or listed status.
