Leroidesanimaux Makes First Start Since Kilroe in March

Leroidesanimaux, 7-for-9 on the turf and a multiple grade I winner, returns to the races in Saratoga's $200,000 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) on Saturday. The Brazilian-bred won one of three starts in his native country before joining Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel's Southern California string in autumn of 2003 and flexing his muscles in a big way.

Since then, Leroidesanimaux has won all but one of his seven starts, suffering his only defeat in his United States debut. Leroidesanimaux is one of those versatile horses that can run big on the lead or from stalking range.

As talented as he is, sightings of Leroidesanimaux have been rare in 2005. In fact, this horse has only raced once, winning Santa Anita's Frank Kilroe Handicap (gr. IT) in March. Leroidesanimaux was turned out for a 60-day break after winning the Kilroe.

Leroidesanimaux enters the Fourstardave for 3-year-olds and up on turf at 1 1/16 miles with seven published workouts dating back to July 13th. He breezed six furlongs over the training turf course in 1:17 4/5 Tuesday morning in company with the Australian-bred star Alinghi, who is running in Monday's Ballston Spa Breeders' Cup (gr. IIIT).

Silver Tree, who drew the rail for the Fourstardave, captured one of the biggest races of his career at Saratoga last summer, taking the Bernard Baruch Handicap (gr. IIT). He has suffered nothing but tough losses here since, losing the 2004 Fourstardave by a half-length and this summer's Baruch by a half-length to Artie Schiller. On the bright side, Artie Schiller is considered one of the better American-based turf horses in training. Silver Tree goes out for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott and Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey. They won this race a few years ago with Hap.

America Alive, from Neil Howard's stable, readied himself with a bullet work of :47 over four furlongs on grass Aug. 23. He won the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (gr. I) on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs and will be a late threat if he gets enough pace to set up his late run.
