Edited press releaseThe Claiming Crown, which will offer $650,000 in purses for seven races, will be broadcast live on HorseRacing Television July 16 from Canterbury Park in Minnesota.Canterbury and the Claiming Crown announced the broadcast deal June 29. The Claiming Crown, a series of starter-allowance stakes for claiming horses, will be run for the seventh time. Canterbury has hosted the event all but one year."Canterbury Park and Claiming Crown are very pleased to have HRTV as part of this years event," Eric Halstrom, Canterbury vice president of racing and simulcasting, said in a release. "The staff and management of HRTV are well-known to be some of the finest TV people in the racing industry and they've shown an eagerness to produce a high-quality broadcast."The Claiming Crown is known as Thoroughbred racing's championship for blue-collar racehorses. Horses who have started at least once since July 15, 2004, for claiming prices ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 are eligible for the events.HRTV, which can be found on numerous cable television systems throughout the country and through the satellite provider Dish Network (channel 404), will provide on-site analysis of the seven races. It's the first time HRTV has hosted a live remote broadcast of the Claiming Crown.
