Red Clubs Wins Coventry for 2-Year-Olds at Royal Ascot
Racing at the Royal Ascot at York meet got underway June 14 with the Coventry Stakes (Eng-II) for 2-year-olds, and it was Red Ransom's son, Red Clubs, winning his third consecutive race after an opening loss.Bred in Ireland by J. Fiske and trained by Barry Hills, Red Clubs scored by 1 3/4 lengths after racing prominently on the outside and taking the lead before the final furlong under jockey Michael Hills. Finishing second was Pacific Pride (by Compton Place), then Amadeus Wolf (by Mozart). Time for the six furlongs was 1:10.91.Red Clubs, who is owned by R.J. Arculli and who picked up $73,348 of the $126,462 Coventry purse, won earlier at Goodwood and Newmarket.He twice was sold at Tattersalls (as a weanling and yearling) and both times commanded slightly less than his Coventry earnings. Red Clubs is the second foal from his dam, English and French stakes winner Two Clubs.Red Ransom, who for years stood in Central Kentucky, is standing this year at Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England.
